This update focuses on changes to the multiplayer game.

For some major weapons, we’ve strengthened their unique characteristics or made them easier to handle.

For the Big Bubbler, we’ve changed it to increase the amount of time you can safely operate by making it harder to destroy, even from positions that make it easier to attack weak points.

Regarding the Splattercolor screen, we changed it to make it easier to control the movement of the opponent by increasing the risk of touching the screen.

For Triple Splashdown, while it’s difficult to time its use when opponents are actively trying to knock the player down, it’s extremely powerful when opponents aren’t knocking the player down. Therefore, we changed it at the same time to make it harder to knock down and to narrow the area of effect.

For Kraken Royale, we changed it to alleviate an issue where, from the perspective of opposing players, it was difficult to stop the countdown progress when combining Kraken Royale with Super Jump in certain modes.

We plan to release the next update at the end of the current season. It will primarily focus on weapon balance adjustments and adding features for the 2024 Sizzle season.

The next update is also planned to change it so that when a player’s rank in any mode is within rank 1000 for the previous season’s X ranking, the rank change due to the season change will become S+0.

This change aims to alleviate an issue that makes it difficult to find a partner in X battles right after a season change for players with particularly high X power.

Error corrections

  • Fixes to player controls
    • Fixed an issue where chargers would sometimes hit the ground next to the player’s feet when changing direction while rapid firing after swimming.
    • Fixed an issue that caused brella canopies to disappear approximately 16/60 seconds earlier when launched at the same time they ran out of stamina compared to when not launched.
    • Fixed an issue with the Recycled Brella 24 Mk I that would sometimes prevent firing if the canopy was destroyed at the same time it attempted to fire immediately after closing.
    • Fixed an issue where after using Killer Wail 5.1 and executing a command that emptied the special gauge during a Super Jump, the next time the player used Killer Wail 5.1, the special gauge would immediately empty as soon as it was used.
    • Made the New Squiffer’s aim to not become unstable by fixing an issue with the Zipcaster where when the player took damage while jumping after grabbing a wall, their upper body position would become unintentionally unstable.
    • Fixed an issue where when defeating an opponent at the same time as using Triple Splashdown, the sound effect indicating the activation of Triple Splashdown would sometimes not play even though the ink fists from Triple Splashdown would appear.
    • Fixed an issue where the effects of the Respawn Punisher gear ability would apply if the player was defeated by an opponent equipped with the Respawn Punisher and then fell off the stage or into water before being defeated by another player.
    • Fixed an issue where sometimes when a player is participating in an unstable wireless environment, defeating that player while using a special weapon would cause the next special weapon used by that player to not display correctly.
  • Multiplayer fixes
    • Fixed an issue in Tower Control mode where the tower would sometimes not progress when the player was immersed in ink in the corner of the top surface of the tower.
    • Fixed an issue in Marlin Airport where players would sometimes land in a different location when using Super Jump to go to certain locations near the spawn point.
    • Adjusted Turf War map display position to Fixed an issue in Marlin Airport where players inside the Spawner would sometimes not fit on the screen when adjusting the Turf War map display position.
    • Fixed an issue in Marlin Airport where when using the Zipcaster near moving terrain, the player would sometimes end up crashing into the terrain when the effect ended.
    • Fixed an issue in Marlin Airport that allowed players to come from certain inkrails onto fences they weren’t meant to be able to climb.
    • Fixed an issue where when launching a brella canopy while standing on raised terrain at Bluefin Depot and Marlin Airfield, the canopy would sometimes not move straight ahead.
  • Fixes for Salmon Run
    • Fixed an issue where the Golden Egg would be ejected from the stage after transferring between inkrails, the Golden Egg would sometimes reappear far away when returning to the stage. Instead, it will now return to the base of the last inkrail that was driven.
    • Fixed an issue where when a fish stick was standing in a Flipper-Flopper area, the ink status on top of the fish stick would affect whether that area was returned with ink.
  • Other repairs

Nintendo has been rolling out all sorts of new updates for squid shooter Splatoon 3, and the next one looks set to arrive later this week.

As pointed out by dataminer and Splatoon 3 enthusiast ‘OatmealDome’ on social media, the next version is expected to be released in a few days. Nintendo’s official Splatoon account mentions how this update will restore the ‘Undertow Spillway’:

Nintendo: Important message from the Undertow Spillway Maintenance Team: “The Undertow Spillway will be closed from 15/04 at 17:00 to 17/04 at 19:00 for inspections and extension work. For safety reasons, access will be closed during this period so we appreciate your patience.”

This new update will follow Version 7.1.0, which hit the Switch late last month. Includes some fixes, DLC ‘Side order‘, some updates for SplatNet 3 and more.

In some sad news, Nintendo shut down online services for the Wii U and 3DS last week, ending online play for the original Splatoon game. However, there are still other ways to play online.
