Animal Crossing: New Horizons is busy catching fish and beetles again. The animal protection organization PETA has a clear opinion: play vegan.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons lives not only with animals, but also with them. While pigs, birds and the like share the neighborhood with you, insects and fish are left behind as they are the main source of income to pay off Tom Nook's debts. The animal rights organization PETA therefore suggests an alternative style of play: vegan.
Accordingly, neither fish nor crawling animals should be taken from their natural habitat and locked up in a museum. Instead, players should concentrate on the animal-free and environmentally friendly possibilities of the game: plant trees, meet friends and beautify the island.
Of course, you shouldn't take all of this too seriously. PETA may be right in referring to the real world, but most people can also be trusted to differentiate between games and reality. The organization regularly uses popular games, especially with animals in significant roles, to make comparisons with circumstances in reality and to draw more people's attention to abuses.
When asked whether the organization is against Animal Crossing: New Horizons, PETA says: "PETA hopes that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will encourage people to feel connected to and with the animals we share our planet with to end speciesism, the misguided assumption that humans are above all other animal life forms. "
