If adapting a book can be an extremely complicated task, imagine taking a work of H.P. Lovecraft. The American author’s novels and stories marked the horror and science fiction genres, and his legacy is enormous. However, it seems that James Wan He has a promising project.
In an interview in the latest issue of Empire magazine, to which ScreenRant has had access, Wan spoke briefly about one of his most difficult but at the same time most ambitious projects: the adaptation of Call of Cthulhu. The filmmaker commented that it was going to be a very difficult film to sell to production companies due to its enormous degree of esotericism, but he is very enthusiastic about what he is writing.
“We’ll see. Actually, I don’t even write it for anyone. It’s something I’m passionate about. But it’s very esoteric. It’s going to be a hard sell…”
Although he claims that no production company has yet bought the project from him, it is most likely that one will end up giving him the go-ahead in the long term. After all, the director has achieved resounding successes with films. Knowing that it is a project inspired by Lovecraftit is likely that a good part of the public is aware of the production.
Wan has been the creator of the saga Sawdirector of great horror works such as Insidious o Warren expedientand other films far from the genre but with high budgets that have been successful, such as Aquaman or Fast & Furious 7. Therefore, it is very likely that this film will become one of his big productions in the future.
