If you’ve been anxiously awaiting news from Xbox Game Studios and The Coalition about Gears of War 6, know that you’re not alone. Thankfully, the wait may soon be over as the rumors continue to heat up.
While the timing makes sense (Gears 5 launches in 2019), AAA development is such a mess these days that making these predictions is almost pointless. However, recent reports suggest that the sixth mainline Gears of War game is indeed part of Xbox’s summer plans to wow the gaming world. Now, we may have just received the correct confirmation from a major COG participant.
There are massive spoilers for Gears of War 5.

When asked on social media about JD Fenix’s fate in Gears 5 and whether Kate Diaz’s choice to save Del Walker instead of him will continue in the next game existence (because everyone suspected the league was doing two slightly different campaigns), J.D. actor Liam McIntyre has said he really doesn’t know, but maybe the Gears team will tell us in June . You can check out a screenshot of the original Twitter post below:
Dexerto recently shared excerpts from an interview with the actor. McIntyre said he really had no idea what the Coalition was doing. If he’s telling the truth, and he wasn’t involved in the game’s development this late (if these reports turn out to be accurate), it’s fair to assume that JD Fenix is the “canon death” at the end of the game. To be honest, Gears 5 opens up more dramatic possibilities for Marcus Phoenix and the younger characters.
Regardless, an official announcement is definitely coming sooner rather than later, and all signs seem to point to Gears of War making a big return in the near future. Current plans for the IP also include a Netflix-backed live-action movie and possibly even a remake series, which could bring some of the console-exclusive titles in the series to PC for the first time. Fingers crossed!
