Gaming News GTA 5 on Nintendo Switch becomes reality! These modders have achieved the impossible thanks to the source code, even if the console is coughing up its lungs
Although you might have thought it impossible, determined gamers have managed to get Grand Theft Auto V running on a Nintendo Switch. Even though the game was originally released in 2013, we think Nintendo’s hybrid console must have struggled to get everything to work properly…
While all of gamers’ attention is now focused on Grand Theft Auto VI, Grand Theft Auto V still continues to make headlines with information that is…unusual to say the least. Today, Rockstar’s title is causing a stir not because of official information, but thanks to an impressive initiative by players for a result that is as funny as it is unsurprising.
GTA 5 on Switch, what does it look like?
On the social network X (formerly Twitter), Modding group Superstar South posted a short two-minute clip showing Grand Theft Auto V running on a Nintendo Switch. Since March, Internet users have been working on this project with the aim of offering an unofficial port of GTA V to Nintendo’s hybrid console, but also to Android and Linux.
Unfortunately, it is so, This group of amateurs appears to have used the game’s source code, which has been circulating on the Internet following the hacks Rockstar has suffered in recent years. The source code has been online since December 2023, but of course it is all illegal. However, that didn’t stop Superstar South from working on this unofficial port of GTA 5 to Nintendo Switch for a render… that won’t surprise anyone.
Of course you’d like to at least see how far we’ve come…

Unsurprisingly, a mixed result
As you can see in the snippet above, Grand Theft Auto V suffers from numerous slowdowns and relatively poor visual quality on Nintendo Switch. Obviously the presentation is less good than on Xbox 360 and PS3, while Nintendo’s hybrid console was released four years after GTA 5. But obviously the Switch isn’t known for its technical prowess, and this video proves it once again.
Since this is a first draft of an unofficial version, it is obvious that the result is less good than what could be sold commercially. However, note that this is what the game might look like in Nomadic mode and not in the docked version. In any case, it’s much more of a curiosity that makes you smile and allows you to answer the question: “What would GTA V look like on the Switch?” rather than something concrete.
