Stellar Blade has a truly moving side quest that you shouldn’t miss

Starblade is a good game. If you wanted Nier: Automata Without all the heady themes, Shift Up’s latest PS5-exclusive character action game is right up your alley. It doesn’t tell as good a story as PlatinumGames’ 2017 character action game, nor is its characterization as deep, but there’s a quest chain that’s so good and so moving that I’m still thinking about it. In fact, these missable side missions are the best mini-story Starblade has to offer.

To talk about these side quests, however, I have to venture a little into spoiler territory. I won’t give everything away in the two-part mission, but some storylines will be brought to light. So this is your warning that spoilers for the Looking at You and Keeping Secrets missions follow.

A Shakespeare play in the making

So. Eve, a beautiful girl with a sharp sword, has descended to Earth to help humanity rebuild and put an end to a deadly invasion of aliens called Naytibas. To get a feel for the vibe, she arrives in Xion, the last human city. Here you buy things in shops, interact with NPCs, find collectibles and chests, and take on side quests. One of the earlier side objectives is titled “Looking at You” and is the one that begins this tearful love story between two androids: an immobile singer and her bodyguard.

To begin Looking at You, head to The Last Gulp, an underground bar in southwest Xion. It’s an empty bar with a pool table with a few balls on it and some furniture turned over, but a tune is playing. The only person visible is a silver-haired android, her legs stripped down to bare stilts and a glowing green robot hovering over her right shoulder like an IV bag. This is Enya, and as her bodyguard Su explains as she emerges from the shadows, she’s stuck in this bar humming her songs forever. She is badly damaged and Su is there to protect Enya as the world collapses. Su wants to help, but has no money to pay for the parts needed to restore Enya to working condition. And as she is, she can only hum. Otherwise she is…lifeless.

Eve offers to help. Because of her connection to the Airborne Squad regiment, she is an “angel,” as the citizens of Xion call her. Since she has, Eve talks to her Airborne colleague, brave engineer Lily, about what it will take to make Enya functional. After a short conversation and walking through the wasteland (one of StarbladeLily gathers the necessary components and performs quick surgery on Enya. When Lily finishes, Enya and Su share a tender little moment as she talks about how “it’s been so long” since she felt the warmth of his hands.

Enya, like Su, has nothing to repay Eve with – other than the music she’s been humming in the bar for years. Eve says that’s fine. This concludes Looking at You. But that’s just the first act of this two-pronged love story.

What an Android would do for love

Act two is “Keeping Secrets” and begins again in “The Last Gulp”, although a little later in the game. When you return to the bar, you will find that Enya has stopped singing. It’s up to Su. He hasn’t been lurking in the shadows of the pub since they arrested Enya, and now she’s worried he’s seeing another girl. Enya asks you to investigate Xion and chat with the residents to find out if anyone has seen Su. Apparently he was seen talking to another girl, but it was only Kaya, the young owner of the Sister’s Junk junk shop. Kaya says that Su was looking for a way to give Enya legs, so she told him about some parts in the wasteland that can be formed into new limbs. He rushed away with this information, but Kaya said it had been a few days since he was last seen. Being the angel that she is, Eve travels to the wasteland once again.

There you look for traces that suggest that Su could still be alive. It’s been a while, so he could be anywhere in the wasteland, in one piece or several. At some point you start finding things: a few notes he dropped, traces of blood and fresh corpses, his weapon. This all leads to a series of abandoned and broken shipping containers stacked on top of each other. You find Su and the legs he was looking for so Enya can walk again. I don’t want to give too much away at this point, as you should experience the rest of the plot of this quest for yourself, but suffice it to say that Enya and Su are a perfect ship. Shakespeare would be proud, perhaps even envious, of the love these two share.

At first glance, he may seem like a creep lurking in the shadows while Enya remains motionless, humming tunes as her exposed machinery creaks. But he cares so much about her. Su’s admiration for Enya is so obvious that he would do anything for her. He would risk his life if he gave her the world for it. Seriously, this little love story is a Shakespearean tragedy in the making, and it’s completely overlooked if you don’t meet Enya in The Last Drink.

Now I have revealed the best mini story Starblade When it comes to the most romantic couple ever in the game, you should definitely play the game and experience the events for yourself in Eve’s no-heel high heels. It’s available now for PS5.
