Based on Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts!
While the Harry Potter saga ended in theaters in 2011, Warner Bros., which owns the rights to the franchise, was determined not to let the story die while the universe was more popular than ever. We were entitled to that five years later Fantastic Beasts, a film series set before the adventures of Harry Potterbut still in the same world.
This new epic is inspired by the book of the same name, written by JK Rowling and is initially just a directory of fantastic creatures, some of which appear in the books of her saga. But finally, It was decided to make a series of films about the man introduced as the author, Norbert Scamander. and the events in which he took part at the beginning of the 20th century. Unfortunately, the saga seems to have already come to an end after three episodes in the cinema.
An eternally incomplete saga?
In 2018, during the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, This second installment is less compelling than the first and boasts the lowest grossing of the Wizarding World franchise. Still, there’s no reason to stop producers from signing for a third installment. However, Johnny Depp, who plays Gellert Grindelwald, the main antagonist of the saga, is in the middle of a trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. Before this situation, Warner decides to cast another actor for this role and it is Mads Mikkelsen who will replace him in the short term in “Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets”, which will be released in 2022.
Unfortunately, the decline is confirmed for this third part, which sets the new lowest box office figure for a film in the Harry Potter series. With a budget of 200 million dollars, David Yates’ film only grossed 400 million, which confirms Warner’s decision not to repeat the experience for a fourth part. However, it seems that the saga was originally planned to consist of five films, the last of which would feature the famous confrontation between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. Unfortunately this no longer seems relevant, however You can always form your own opinion on this third and final episode, available on TF1+.
