Arrowhead Games is actually currently experiencing an indescribable high with Helldivers 2. However, a questionable decision is now causing massive review bombing on Steam. You now need a PlayStation account to defend democracy.
Actually, there should be nothing but joy at Arrowhead Games, because Helldivers 2 has been setting one record after another since its release. As Sony recently announced, the co-op shooter is one of the studio’s most successful titles of all time – not least thanks to the fantastic sales figures on the PC.

But dark clouds are gathering over the democratic wonderland. From May 6, 2024, new players will have to link a PlayStation account to their Steam account in order to play Helldivers 2.
If you, as an existing customer, are now feeling safe, then you are wrong. Because if you have been playing the shooter for a long time, you will only be given an extended grace period. From May 30, 2024 you will see the mandatory registration and must link a PlayStation Network account to your Steam account by June 4, 2024.
Sony Studios explains the reason for this drastic change: “Account linking plays a critical role in protecting our players and maintaining the security values in PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games. This is our most important tool to “To protect players from griefing and abuse by allowing us to ban players who behave accordingly. Banned players also have the right to appeal.”
Actually quite understandable, but the community sees it a little differently and acknowledges the changes with review bombings. Many fans are upset that they don’t have a PlayStation account and that the change months after the release is in no way justified. The lack of data security at Sony is particularly criticized and of course many see the change as massively “undemocratic”.
