I had many doubts about how a curved monitor could work with an Xbox or PC. The truth is that I wanted to try it with all possible platforms and in the end I’ve been gaming and working with this AOC 34-inch curved monitor for several weeks.

The doubts are logical, to see how to get the most out of a monitor with these characteristics when consoles and many computers are not designed to work in 21:9 format. When connecting the monitor, the first thing to do is download the app by AOC – G Menu. Once this application is downloaded, we can operate all the features of the monitor and start working with it. Before getting to the heart of the matter, the first thing that surprises you is its design, it is beautiful, super easy to install and with a size of 34 inches that impresses the first time you see it on the desktop. The good news is that the power supply is internal, so you’ll only need to run one cable for power, which is appreciated.

These would be the main technical characteristics of the monitor, where the response time of 1 ms stands out, it has HDR with a screen of neither more nor less than 34 inches panoramic. To work, I found it a blessing, the size of the screen gives everything to be able to have workspaces in which to have everything available on the screen. With the G Menu app or other Windows apps such as Microsoft PowerToys. Both applications allow you to organize the screen as you wish, being able, for example, as in my case, to divide it into three work areas, one central and two lateral, to be able to open three windows and work in a manner optimal in three ways.
In this case we have some interesting configurations, the first thing to do depending on the PC you have is to decide if you want to use it in full screen or with black borders on the sides. In this case, I chose to use it in full screen mode and use PowerToys to create my workspaces. This way, at least in my case, you have three windows to get the most out of it. If you want to work with the PC using full screen directly, you have to keep in mind that the image will appear stretched and curved, so the feeling is not the best and I would not recommend it, although you can do it.
Let’s play with the Xbox Series
If you came here you probably expected to read my impressions using this monitor with Xbox Series and I’m going to tell you everything. I have been playing for several weeks with the Xbox Series connected to the monitor and using the full screen option, i.e. taking 21:9 to fill the screen and with HDR enabled. Just like for work, the full screen option stretches the image and also maintains a resolution of 1080p and smoothly at 60 frames per second. The picture will stretch you, that is, the price you will pay for the expanse the monitor offers, its immersion, for car games and the way its design surrounds you. For this you will have to get used to it, if you are looking for a monitor to enjoy the UW with your computer and at the same time you can play with it, it is a risky option, since you can hate it or love it.
In my case, after spending weeks playing and working with it, I won’t change it. To play you must be clear that you need the necessary distance, because otherwise the 34 inches and the width of the screen can end up overwhelming you, it is better Maintain a safe distance when playing. I’ve played a bit of everything, but without a doubt the games that take the cake are the ones you play in first person, even if everything will seem a little “fattier” the immersion you enjoy quickly makes you forget. Car games are also a spectacle, as long as you play them in first person, the view is incredible for them, playing games like Forza Horizon or Motorsport and feeling how the curved screen as well as its width offers you a brutal immersion.
In other games you can do tests and see that the screen has good colors, brutal response, you will not notice any delay in any type of game and in addition we have several game modes, so you can choose the one you like the most according to gender, in total we have with 6 different modes.
Besides being eye-catching, the AOC monitor gives you brutal versatility for gaming or working. It’s a shame that the ability to play in 21:9 format is not set on the console. It would be great if current or future consoles offer native support for this type of monitor. In the end, they are no longer used for this reason, for fear of being able to get the most out of them, depending on a PC and that the games have the support to play with them. Apart from these points, it seemed to me to be a perfect option for playing and working, it has no disadvantages in terms of design, quality of materials and panel, its only disadvantage is not being able to take advantage of its size and not daring to take the plunge and try such an interesting and different proposition like the one offered by AOC instructors.
