iPhone 15 failed to surpass the popularity of iPhone 14 in the first quarter of the year!
The most recent report released by consumer trends research firm CIRP concerns iPhone 15 adoption. So far in 2024, the new family of the latest iPhone accounts for the low sales of the past six years. The panorama represents a setback that those with the bitten apple may not have expected, especially after ending 2023 as the brand with the largest smartphone market share in the world.
The report focused on the assessment What are the most popular iPhone models in the United States during the first quarter of 2024 and how the iPhone 15 range is adopted compared to iPhone 14 and earlier devices.
The five best-selling iPhones
The study covering US market preference in Q1 2024 revealed what new iPhone customers chose. In this way The acquisition percentage of iPhone models was as follows:
- iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max: 22% and 23% of the total share of iPhones sold, respectively (45% in total).
- The iPhone 15 Plus: 9% of the share of iPhones sold
- The iPhone 15 and 14: both with a 14% share (28% combined) appear in third position.
iPhone 15 is not as popular as iPhone 14
Although sales of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max in the first quarter of 2024 matched those of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max in the first quarter of 2023, The overall iPhone 15 device mix was lower, with a 68% share of total iPhone sales. While last year The iPhone 14 family had a 75% share in the first quarter.
According to CIRP representatives, this trend is due to the following causes:
We see this as a continuation of a trend from recent quarters, as cheaper current models are giving up some share to older models. The once-flagship, now entry-level iPhone 15 is no longer the cutting-edge option, as the Pro and Pro Max models take on that role.
Will the iPhone 16 improve the marketability of the device?
Apple has another chance to reverse the trend. With the launch of iPhone 16, Apple might be able to meet users’ needs and expectations with innovative features and improvements.. This launch could mark a turning point for the company, attracting customers eager to adopt the latest technologies and features.
In 2024, Apple is expected to introduce four iPhone 16 models with design changes and other very significant improvements. One of them is the promise to launch exclusive AI functions.
Furthermore, all four iPhone 16 models could include an A18 chip and a new button which will be another reason to purchase, especially for those who use the iPhone camera the most.
