I’m not lying when I say I have over 70,000 photos on my iPhone. What’s more, I’m even behind by being closer to the next round number. At the time of writing these lines, I have 77,412 photographs and 8,263 videos. It has a certain cleverness because, in addition to what I have accumulated on the iPhone for years, I have also added a good part of the photo library that I have accumulated throughout my life (including other smartphones).
The thing is, as you can imagine, it’s usually a gigantic chest from which retrieving memories can be an impossible task. And that’s how it is at the beginning, but I have several tips for always finding what I want and, at the same time, become aware of my memories.
Three settings to always have localized photos
I already talked to you some time ago about how I organize my photo albums on iPhone, but ultimately, a good part, so as not to get lost in so much photography, goes through these three settings that I’m talking to you about at about now. And together they serve me always locate the photo I want and when I want
- Create albums for special occasions like birthdays, concerts, etc. Sometimes I don’t even differentiate them by years or people. I just put them in a similarly themed album so I know they’re all there.
- Tag people, something th at is done by dragging a photo up and clicking on the icon in which that person appears. With very recurring people in my photos, I always do it. By confirming a few photos, the system is able to identify all the photos they appear in and when I want to find photos of that person, it’s much simpler. In fact, I can combine the search with adds like other people to find photos in which they appear together or add elements like “portrait” to find more artistic ones in which they appear with the background blurred .
- Enable camera locationso that all photos are located where they were taken and this way it can be as simple as searching for that location and finding all the photos and videos I took there.
The ‘For you’ tab and a reminder of memories
As I said at the beginning, it is easy with so many photographs to see them all. I recognize that there are many that I simply gloss over and others that I may not see again for years. However, this doesn’t happen to everyone. I love nostalgia and there’s nothing better than access content generated by the iPhone itself in the “For you” tab from the ‘Photos’ application.
There we find many ways to remember moments, including highlighting the automatic montages that the system makes with photos and videos of a certain event, adding music that (don’t ask me how) is always appropriate for the occasion. If they are also memories in which more people appear, being able to share them via WhatsApp or Telegram is wonderful. They appreciate it very much.
Likewise, also I usually search for today’s content, but previous years. That is, if it’s May 5, I use the app’s search engine and type “May 5” so that all the photos and videos taken on May 5 appear regardless of the year.
Yes, I know the iPhone sometimes suggests these memories in the aforementioned “For You” tab, but it’s not always accurate with the dates and this way I make sure I find the content saved on that exact date . And you don’t see what memories come to me. It’s a real nostalgia hit to know what I was doing exactly one year ago, two years ago… ten years ago. Because we believe that we do not change, but that life does not happen quickly.
This, yes, I warn sensitive people of the problematic nature of these memories. In my case, it concerns people and animals who are no longer there. It’s good to remember it and it’s a great way, but if your stupid day surprises you, it’s best not to look for anything. I came to have a recurring reminder to remember to revisit these memories every day, but sometimes I just don’t feel like it, but doing it every once in a while is best. Even more so if you accumulate a lot of memories, even if you don’t reach an amount as brutal as mine.
