Check out a graphics comparison of the next-gen upgrade for Fallout 4 on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
Now that the free next-gen upgrade for Fallout 4 is available on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, Digital Foundry has addressed the technical side of things and created a comparison video.
In the detailed video, the experts looked at the quality and performance mode and found that it doesn’t work at all on Xbox Series X|S.
After players discovered that switching between quality and performance on Xbox did nothing, Bethesda came forward and stated that it wasn’t a bug at all.
As Digital Foundry notes, the mode change on the PlayStation 5 does have an effect. If you switch off the performance there, the “Quality” mode is activated with 30fps and ultra settings and a higher average resolution.
When comparing PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, it becomes clear that the Sony console renders distant parts of buildings, objects and foliage at a greater distance than is the case on the Xbox.
On the Xbox Series S this error is also present and it remains at 60fps. The only difference is that dynamic 1080p to 1440p were measured on the Xbox Series S, while it is 4K on the Xbox Series X and Playstation 5.
The bottom line is that players still benefit from the update, as they now get dynamic 4K and 60fps “ex works” and do not have to resort to mods as before.
There are many more details about the analysis in the video and also in an article Eurogamer.
