The closures of Xbox studios are like a “stab in the stomach”, according to the director of Arkane Lyon.
Bethesda Arkane Austin studio is one of several Xbox studios that will close officially after unexpected news that fell yesterday. The director of Arkane Lyon spoke about the situation.
In an emotional social media thread, Dinga Bakaba called the Xbox shutdowns “absolutely terrible.” and he even went so far as to claim it was a “fucking stab in the gut.” Here is part of his statement:
“Don’t bother us like in the days of the gold rush, don’t use us as straw dolls because of miscalculations/blind spots, don’t make our work environments Darwinian jungles. You say we make you proud when we play a good game. Make us proud in difficult times. We know it is possible, we have seen it before. For now, the big teams are disappearing before our eyes again and it’s a fucking gut punch. Lyon has no issues at the moment, but be careful and understanding with all of this, respect the voices of those involved and give them space to be heard.

It’s clear that there’s a lot of sadness resonating across the industry following this news (and all the other studio closures that have occurred in recent months), and that also includes a lot of disappointment and anger on the part of the Xbox fans.
