Knowing all the discarded content, which was not implemented due to lack of time or technological limitations, is never a good idea. It’s certainly interesting, but it ends with more broken hearts than we would like. These are things that generally never end up reaching the video game, although in this case we remain hopeful.
Have you ever wondered why only the armor in Helldivers 2 has abilities? The helmets and capes, although they are part of each set, end up fulfilling mere aesthetic functions. There are also no benefits for having all three pieces of a set equipped. We previously expressed our desire for them to have a practical function… and this was going to be the case in one of the cases.
Johan Pilestedt, director of Helldivers 2 and CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, spoke about the issue on Discord. “Are there plans to add abilities/traits to capes and helmets?” one fan asked. The response was as incredible as it was heartbreaking for fans:
Not for capes, but I know there is debate about helmets. Originally, each helmet was going to have a unique HUD – so medics would be able to see health, reconnaissance would see the outline of enemies, etc. But alas, we had to cut it due to… well, the game leaving.
This is the classic downloaded content that causes us infinite sadness and makes us sink our knees into the ground in surrender to the cruelty of fate. How cool it would have been if each helmet had a different HUD depending on its functionality! Pilestedt didn’t directly mention that there are plans to implement it, but we can’t give up hope that it will arrive in the future.
