With Nintendo’s recent acknowledgment of the existence of a Switch successor, the rumor machine seems to have received a fat can of spinach and is now working overtime.

Over it Famiboardsdiligent users have been searching for bits of information that could give us a clearer indication of what to expect with Nintendo’s upcoming console, and it seems a few people have managed to figure out the Switch 2 codename.

No, it’s not NX2. Actually it is Muji. Well, that could be Muji – none of this should be taken as absolute fact just yet, but it was reportedly found directly within the code for the software development kits. However, it is not entirely clear what that code name means. The Japanese translation is ‘ordinary’ (無地), which some users have concluded could mean it’s just a placeholder for now.

Others, however, looked back on the Japanese trader “Muji” for a potential relationship. Muji sells a variety of goods, including clothing, household items and fashion accessories, all the while embracing a ‘no brand’ policy. In essence, then, their clothes could be described as ‘plain’, as they do not contain any logos or branding.

The company is also staunchly minimalist, placing particular emphasis on recycling and virtually avoiding the necessary advertising costs that come with brand recognition.

How this could be attributed to Nintendo is anyone’s guess, but it kind of lends credence to the idea that the Switch successor is just an evolution of the current Switch family of consoles; one that doesn’t stray too far from the core concept and isn’t full of unnecessary gimmicks. Hmm.

All of this is very interesting indeed, but like any rumour, it should be emphasized that it should be taken with a grain of salt. We’ll find out the truth from Nintendo at some point next year.
