Now it is official! WhatsApp is getting a new design. Both the Android and iOS apps are currently being revised.

The first changes had already become visible in the past few weeks. Now Meta has one Blog post presented the new look of the messenger and gives an overview of all the changes:

Dark mode on Android phones is getting darker

  • New accent color: Meta now uses a new, consistent green color palette in the app. The accent color is used to identify notifications and buttons in Messenger, among other things. According to Meta, the color was chosen from 35 colors. The company does not reveal whether you will have the opportunity to change it later.
  • New icons and illustrations: Icons are intended to make it easier for you to find your way around the app. WhatsApp has revised all the icons in the app and partly animated them. The messenger now relies on a rounded, contoured style.
  • Navigation bar moves down: This change only affects Android phones. Here the navigation bar moves down like on the iPhone. This should make it easier to use because the buttons are closer to your fingers.
  • New share dialog on iPhone: However, the share dialog has only been revised on the iPhone. Instead of a full-screen menu, a smaller menu now opens up. The share dialog has been adapted to the Android version of the app.
  • Chatfilter: You can now find buttons above the chat list on both iPhone and Android phones. You can use these to filter the chats and, for example, only display those with unread messages or only groups.
  • Darker Dark Mode: On Android phones, Dark Mode is now a shade darker. This was a request from many fans and is intended to increase readability.

The overall aim of the redesign was to make the app fresher and more modern. They also wanted to reduce complexity.

In recent years, we have primarily worked on new functions and added more and more. Therefore, it is now necessary to also put a hand in the design.
