Nintendo has now officially confirmed work on the Switch successor. However, the release of the new hardware could take longer than previously expected.
The rumor mill has been simmering around the Nintendo Switch 2 for a long time, the existence of which has now been officially confirmed by Nintendo. Accordingly, the official presentation of the console will take place in the current year 2024.
Numerous speculations once said that the hardware would be released in 2024, but recently there was talk of an internal postponement to the beginning of 2025. Now a sales forecast from Nintendo itself could indicate that we may have to wait longer than previously thought until the Switch 2 is officially available.
Rumors of a release at the beginning of 2025 are likely to be dampened by the latest developments. We probably have to prepare for the second quarter of the 2025 calendar year at the earliest.
On the occasion of the announcement of current business figures, there was also a Q&A session with President Shuntaro Furukawa. He confirmed that the Switch 2 was not taken into account in Nintendo’s sales forecasts for the current financial year. The fiscal year in question runs until March 31, 2025, so a release of the new console can no longer be expected by then. If Furukawa’s statements are interpreted correctly, then the Switch successor will probably not be released until April 2025 at the earliest.
After all: When the platform appears, there should actually be sufficient quantities. According to Furukawa, delivery bottlenecks in the semiconductor sector should not play a role; These were a big issue for a long time in the production of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, so these consoles were sometimes difficult to obtain for a long time. We will of course keep you updated on further developments!
