At Google, the big developer conference in mid-May is a tradition. The Google I/O will also take place in 2024 – and exciting news awaits us from Mountain View again this year.
In addition to important developer tools that Google is presenting on the sidelines of the program, there will again be a big keynote at which the company will present various hardware and software products. We give you an overview of the most important rumors about Google I/O 2024.
Google I/O 2024: New Android and WearOS versions, new hardware and even more AI
Traditionally, Google I/O is a developer conference. This means that Google is focusing on presenting tools and solutions for Android developers and bringing them closer to users in workshops and panels. The Google I/O keynote is usually much more effective than that – this year it will take place on May 14th at 7 p.m. German time.
And Google has a lot up its sleeve for this keynote: As usual, we’ll probably get a more detailed preview of Android 15 here. According to relevant reports, Google is also planning to introduce a new WearOS version – it would be the fifth. A major focus will also be placed on how the company will incorporate artificial intelligence into its products in the future. As a reminder: Google has its own AI project starting, Gemini.
It is conceivable, among other things, that Google will present further integrations of its AI project into the existing programs and apps of “Google Workspace”. Last year, for example, the company showed us how Gemini AI can help summarize documents from Google Docs or emails from Gmail, or even create new drafts. The ongoing development of Gemini suggests that a lot awaits us in this area.
New Pixel 8a and Google Fold 2?
In the run-up to Google I/O, the company presented the Pixel 8a, an affordable offshoot of its top smartphones. The cell phone goes on sale on the opening day of the I/O. Nevertheless, there could be new hardware from Google on display at I/O.
There is a possibility that Google will present a new edition of its foldable smartphone – the Google Pixel Fold – at Google I/O 2024. Since there are still comparatively few rumors and leaks about this, it is also conceivable that Google will continue the development of the smartphone and present it together with the Tensor G4 chip in the fall. In any case, Google should include a small teaser. We may also get a first look at the Pixel 9.
