The last part of the traditional Doom series is now a whopping four years old. Two expansions followed, but since then the series has been shockingly quiet. A new trademark entry is currently causing the rumor mill to simmer.
Since its debut in 1993, the Doom series has been one of the most important and influential forces in the first-person shooter sector. However, with the last part, id Software made some exciting decisions and relied on many platforming segments and put “combat puzzles” in the foreground. Not all fans liked this move, but overall Doom Eternal was largely received positively.

Since its release in 2020, the series has been very quiet, apart from the two “The Ancient Gods” expansions for Doom Eternal. Accordingly, many fans are starving for new baller fodder and now there are finally indications as to when we will get new material.
Now a trademark entry has been unearthed, which Bethesda filed back in January 2024. This has the not exactly easy-to-use title IDKFA, but of course there is more to it than just a jumble of letters. Because the number combination is a cheat code for the original Doom, with which you get all key cards, weapons and ammunition.
Accordingly, the rumor mill is currently boiling over. She is being cheered on by Tom Warren from The Verge, who wants to know that a Microsoft showcase including a new Doom offshoot is planned for June 2024. A new title called Doom: Year Zero also appeared in a leaked document. So it shouldn’t be too long before we finally receive official confirmation.
