God of War is one of the largest and most successful video game blockbusters available exclusively on Playstation 4. New rumors are now hoping that the action game, like other originally PS4-exclusive games such as Horizon Zero Dawn, Detroit: Become Human or Death Stranding, could soon appear on the PC. Is that correct?
We took a close look at the rumors and tell you where they come from and whether there is anything wrong with them.
What are the current rumors based on?
Reddit and some news sites are currently asking if God of War might be will soon no longer be PlayStation Exclusive. This assumption is based on the US PlayStation Store. There, on the product page of God of War – at least according to rumors – the well-known "Only On PlayStation" slogan is missing.
This may not sound impressive at first glance, but it could mean a lot. In the case of other examples such as Horizion Zero Dawn, things started very similarly. With Death Stranding, the absence of this stamp was the first indication of an upcoming PC release.
In addition, the head of Playstations Worldwide Studios, Hermen Hulst, recently spoke about the fact that other PS exclusives could also come to the PC after Horizon, if not all of them and certainly not immediately.
So the rumors are wrong
However, it seems that God of War is a misunderstanding. The reason why God of War currently has no "Only On Playstation" marking is quite simple: Apparently there never was one.
With the help of different websites such as the Wayback Machine, you can view the product page of God of War as it looked for example in 2018. Even then, the said exclusive stamp was missing. So Sony hasn't removed anything here.
Another source for the rumors is the Twitter channel THEAP99. This user also spread the news of itthat the God of War product page has changed. THEAP99 has deliberately created provocative or satirical tweets in the past. His information should therefore be used with extreme caution and has repeatedly proven to be false reports.
So for now, we shouldn't be hoping for God of War to release PC soon. Either way, the latest adventure from Kratos remains an exceptionally good game on PlayStation, as is also the case in Console test of our colleagues from GamePro shows.
