What will be the plot of season 2 of The Rings of Power?
Overall, fans can expect the upcoming season to be “harder, more intense, [and] maybe a little scarier,” according to executive producer Lindsey Weber (via Deadline).
The end of season 1 ended with the arrival of Sauron – previously disguised as the wanderer Halbrand – in Mordor. He is probably preparing for an upcoming battle with Adar and the Orcs.
Showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay explained with The Hollywood Reporter how the character can now fully assume the role of villain: “Like Tony Soprano or Walter White. It’s bad, but complex. We felt like if we did this in the first season, it would overshadow everything else. So the first season feels like Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight is the next movie, with Sauron maneuvering out in the open.
Galadriel is almost certain to be in shock at the revelation of Halbrand’s true identity after manipulating her, especially since the pair were romantically involved. We wouldn’t be surprised if she works on her revenge next season.

Galadriel forged the Three Rings of Power with Elrond and Celebrimbor to save the elven race. However, will they be able to preserve them and guarantee that no one is corrupted in the process?
These aren’t the only rings that will be explored on the show. McKay told the Radio Times: “The second season is very much about more ringtones. The song at the end, [of season 1], by Fiona Apple – which is like a crazy dream come true – suggests that there are Three, then Seven. Why would the Dwarves desperately need rings? And how are they seduced? And how are they deceived? And then Men is an even more complex story.
“There are Nine leaders of Men who want power, and so each of these rings and their forging is not just like, ‘Now the magic thing is done,’ but a story to tell. And I think there are other stories to tell as well, but we’ve definitely started the project and next season is going to deepen it.
The other extremely intriguing thread of Season 1 is Nori Brandyfoot and The Stranger, who travel together. All signs seem to point to this mysterious character being a younger version of Gandalf, so it’s almost certain that their journey will be a crucial plot point in season 2.
