Yesterday, Ubisoft Japan fans finally fulfilled a long-held dream. With a brilliant cinematic trailer, the publisher revealed the latest offshoot of the Assassin’s Creed series: AC Shadows. The game is supposed to feature two protagonists and take you into the exciting Sengoku period.
The almost four-minute video is teeming with details – many of which we already classified for you in our big trailer analysis yesterday. If you haven’t watched it yourself, you can find the trailer here:

Three minutes of Assassin’s Creed Shadows: This is how Ubisoft’s new big open world will be
Apparently you were particularly impressed by one detail. After the premiere of the trailer, numerous users online asked themselves what the note was about, which can be seen briefly at minute 2:20 in the trailer. And we also asked ourselves what was actually written in Japanese characters.
That’s why we didn’t miss the opportunity to put all our brain power together and translate the note for you. After all, the Japanese studies graduates on the GameStar team have to be good for something.
The next assassination target?
After some difficulties with handwritten kanji and old Japanese verb forms, we finally came up with the solution to the puzzle. The note says: 敵は竹田城に有り。
In Europe this means something like: The enemy is in Takeda Castle.
The handover is therefore very likely the preparation of an assassination mission, Because shortly afterwards the protagonists Naoe and Yasuke storm a castle in the trailer and take out a number of samurai guards there. In this scene, some of the skills of the two characters are shown.
What do we know about the castle?
We assume from the note that the fortress shown is die Burg Takeda acts. A hilltop castle in Japan’s Hyogo Prefecture that was in the hands of the Yamana clan at the time of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Have the lords of the castle possibly allied themselves with the Templar Order? In any case, the trailer suggests that the Templars are also making inroads in Japan with the Portuguese ships. And as is typical of the series, it will probably be Yasuke and Naoe’s job to limit their influence.
