If you want an AMD system, you will have to use Windows 11

AMD, System, Windows

Microsoft has set October 14, 2025 as the date when it will stop supporting Windows 10. The company is no longer launching any type of improvements or optimizations for this version of its operating system. Currently, they only release updates that fix different security issues and vulnerabilities.

This may not be the best strategy given that Windows 11 barely has a 30% share. Users are hesitant to jump into this new operating system, at least for now.

AMD will focus on Windows 11

The pressures exerted by Microsoft for the user to upgrade to the new version of Windows are varied. It usually shows, periodically, that the PC meets the Windows 11 requirements (if it meets them, of course). Additionally, if you go to the Update section, it will also tell you that it is compatible and you can install it now.

Point Strix, The next AMD Ryzen for laptops will only offer support for Windows 11. Among the reasons, there is just over a year left to end support for Windows 10 and artificial intelligence. These new Strix Points integrate NPU with a power of up to 45 TOPS which are intended to use Copilot in the latest Microsoft operating system.

This means that any AMD Strix Point-based laptop comes with Windows 11 installed. Well, it can come with this OS or without OS, it depends on the assembler. So they are adapting to the current trend of adding artificial intelligence to everything, whether it is necessary or not, and regardless of the user’s interest.

road map and strix point

Concerning AMD’s Strix Point processors, we know that they will have a hybrid architecture design. These processors will have Zen 5 cores (power) and Zen 5c cores (efficiency) with a total of up to 12 cores. Come on, they will have a heterogeneous structure like current Intel Core chips.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of these new Ryzen laptop processors is the graphics card. They will integrate an RDNA3+ architecture GPU which will offer up to 16 computing units. This design is a hybrid between the RX 6000 and RX 7000 architecture.

The new Strix Point processors also bring with them a change in nomenclature to assimilate to the structure of the Intel Core Ultra. These new processors retain the terms Ryzen 9, Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5. Now the names AI HX and a set of three numbers are added. An example would be the Ryzen 9 AI HX 170, which would be the highest-end model with 12 cores and 24 threads.

It is possible that AMD will present these processors at Computex 2024 which will be held in a few weeks in Taipei, Taiwan. It will be then that we will know all their characteristics and the first systems that mount them. Additionally, we should see the first performance tests.
