The live-action film adaptation Mortal Kombat 2 is scheduled to start in cinemas on October 24, 2025.

After the first live-action film adaptation of the Mortal Kombat game series attracted numerous visitors to the cinemas in 2021, Warner Bros. has now returned to the sequel. Accordingly, the movie Mortal Kombat 2 will be shown next year.

The sequel was announced in 2022, and the film is scheduled to start on October 24, 2025. A separate IMAX version was also confirmed at this time. Simon McQuoid will return to direct, while Jeremy Slater will handle the script. Slater has previously worked on films such as Fantastic 4 and Moon Knight.

Returning in the lead roles are Lewis Tan (Cole Young), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Josh Lawson (Kano), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Mehcad Brooks (Jax) and Ludi Lin (Liu Kang). Fans of the fighting game series can also look forward to Karl Urban as Johnny Cage (The Boys) and Adeline Rudolph (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) as Kitana.

Fan favorite Johnny Cage was not yet represented in the 2021 first film. McQuoid explained at the time that he had influenced the balance of the film and that’s why he didn’t want to include it. The character’s huge popularity would draw all the attention. Johnny Cage has something like his own “gravitational field,” emphasized McQuoid.

The first film thrilled numerous cinemagoers in April 2021. The live-action film grossed $22.5 million in its first weekend alone.
