Xbox You’ll soon be able to make your life a little easier by letting you pre-download game updates ahead of their scheduled release.
Look, in this day and age, we all know that game updates are a necessity, but that doesn’t make them any less annoying. I’m not going to do the whole “remember when you could just pop up a game and it was playable, no installation, no downloading” thing, but I do miss those days. However, I do appreciate how much easier my life has become when it comes to those annoying tedious things. For example, Microsoft announced that you’ll soon be able to pre-download game updates before they’re released, a feature that’s sure to be popular with fans of online gaming.

The feature is actually already available to Xbox Insider members, with the Xbox update preview released on the Alpha ring a few days ago. “Games that support update pre-download will allow updates to be downloaded days before their scheduled release, so you can start playing as soon as the update goes live,” reads the feature’s description. To be clear, this means that not all games will This happens, so don’t be mad at me when the main title in your rotation doesn’t have this feature.
Right out of the gate, Sea of Thieves players can enjoy this new feature, which is great news for those who hate having their pirate adventures interrupted by annoying updates. Xbox is actually a bit behind here, as PlayStation has already taken advantage of this feature, but as the saying goes, better late than never.
While th is is a look at the Xbox’s near future, its vision is less clear, and there are even reports that some of the console’s biggest games may soon be coming to PlayStation.
