XDefiant: Ubisoft promises no pay-to-win mechanics

mechanics, PayToWin, promises, Ubisoft, XDefiant

Ubisoft is not promising any pay-to-win mechanics for the shooter XDefiant, which can be played for free starting today.

In order to survive in the long term, XDefiant needs to be refinanced somehow as a free-to-play shooter. Ubisoft has now provided information about this on the official website.

The publisher immediately states that there will be no pay-to-win mechanics.

It says:

“All content that impacts gameplay and is available for purchase is also unlockable through challenges to ensure fair play in our community.”

“For example, the DedSec faction will be available for purchase in the preseason or unlocked through an in-game challenge by collecting 700k XP.”

Your time spent in the game should be rewarded. Content for customization is unlocked via the Battle Pass or challenges.

Ubisoft gives the following examples of how you can receive rewards:

  • Free Battle Pass Rewards
  • Daily and weekly in-game challenges
  • Ubisoft Connect Challenges
  • Weapon Masteries (with regular updates)
  • Rewards for participating in the community such as Twitch Drops, giveaways, and in-game events.

In the game you can make common adjustments, such as your character, weapons, business card or gestures. More is planned for the future.

The premium content listed below will be available at launch, with player feedback being sought in the future.

  • Premium Battle Pass
  • Character cosmetics
  • Weapon cosmetics
  • Activations for factions
  • Player card backgrounds
  • Player animations
  • Emoji packs

XDefiant is available today for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
