It turns out that the Margot Robbie-starring Pirates of the Caribbean movie is still happening, but it’s separate from the upcoming reboot.
It’s been seven years since the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie, which on the one hand makes me feel a bit old and on the other makes me think “Wait a minute, they were making these movies until 2017?” Early Back in March, series showrunner Jerry Bruckheimer spoke of his intention to reboot the series because “it’s easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.” Robbie wasn’t expected to be involved with this reboot, as back in 2022, she said in an interview with Vanity Fair that she speculated Disney didn’t want to do it anymore, even though it was in development. However, in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bruckheimer clarified the series’ intentions: “These are two different movies.”

One of them is still the reboot he mentioned before, which should include 2019 “The Lion King” screenwriter Jeff Nathanson. The other was a movie that Robbie was originally set to star in, written by Birds of Prey’s Christina Hodson. “We wanted to make them all, and I think Disney agreed that they really wanted to make Margot, too.” Obviously, there are questions about whether Robbie was aware of that intention, but given Barbie’s performance last year, Disney It’s no surprise that Robbie’s star power is wanted to be curtailed.
If Robbie’s movie eventually comes to fruition, she’s going to have a very busy few years ahead of her. For one, she’s getting into the world of gaming, both video and board games, as she’s currently set to produce a movie based on The Sims, while her production company LuckyChap will apparently also be producing a live-action movie based on Monopoly. Yes, that Monopoly. On top of that, she’s also recently been in talks to star in a movie based on the ’90s comic book The Avengers, to be directed by Cathy Christian and Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld. Wish her luck, I say.
