Helldivers 2: Arrowhead CEO resigns, but has a plan

Arrowhead, CEO, Helldivers, plan, resigns

Something different every now and then. Despite the immense success of Helldivers 2, Arrowhead boss Johan Pilestedt has announced his resignation, but there is a very good reason for this.

Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt has resigned and left his position to Shams Jorjani, who has years of experience in management positions at Hooded Horse and Paradox Interactive. However, Pilestedt is not leaving the company, but is throwing himself into other tasks.

Pilestedt simply has little desire to run a company with over 120 employees and deal with organizational stuff. Pilestedt’s passion for game development won out. “After some thought and a lot of concern about how things will turn out, I finally came to the conclusion that I have to follow my heart. It’s not only right for me, but also for the company. Having an unwilling CEO will not end well, I think,” explains the developer.

Pilestedt, who is now taking on the role of Chief Creative Director, immediately answered some questions from the community on Twitter and seems willing to revamp some of the criticisms of Helldivers 2. Among other things, he wants to ensure that the developers get more time to play the game. It is difficult to “make the right decisions when your eyes are not on the road.”

“Secondly, I want to make sure we actively engage with sentiment and get a holistic view of why feedback is being given,” he continues. “And my working theory is that the TTK is too high.” If the TTK (time to kill) is too high, then either the weapons are too weak or the enemies are too tanky – but in practice both problems mean that the weapons feel too weak.

He also believes that the balancing patches of the last few weeks have gone too far and have taken the fun out of the game in some areas. It could be that there will be more major changes to Helldivers 2 in the near future. A community manager at the studio had previously announced that they wanted to take more time for future updates in order to improve their quality. This would be necessary, because the initially strong player numbers of 400,000 and more simultaneous users have now dropped to under 100,000.
