Publisher 2K is currently rumored to have secured an official FIFA license and will be developing the next game, possibly titled FIFA 2K25.

This comes via seller MohPlay Inc x (Thank you, Eurogamer), who posted an unverified claim that the partnership between 2K and FIFA has been “confirmed” with a new game launching this year.

However, what is particularly suspicious about this rumor is the seemingly quick turnaround in the game’s development. If the new game FIFA is launching this year as claimed, one can only assume that 2K assigned a studio (presumably Visual Concepts) to begin work on the soccer game while negotiating with FIFA.

However, to back up MohPlay Inc.’s announcement, Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw also stated that they “could get an announcement” soon, stating that no one was willing to talk publicly about the potential new partnership.

If all of this is true, it’s an exciting idea that 2K could soon be a legitimate challenger to EA’s monopoly in the world of interactive soccer. Since Konami rejected ‘Pro Evolution Soccer’ branding from its own franchise, EA has undoubtedly dominated, with EA Sports FC 24 frequently topping the UK charts.
