That’s a great twist! Side note I learned when joining the team: Drake never takes damage from bullets. The red interface showing ‘hits’ represents that his ‘luck’ is running out. Eventually, enemies will get a clean shot and kill him if he takes enough close hits.
Uncharted does not show a health bar per se, but uses the classic resource of removing color from the image, along with red colors, to illustrate that Drake is suffering damage. Or so we thought for years, but it’s actually an unseen indicator that his luck is running out.
