Warner Bros. Games is releasing MultiVersus. The free platform fighting game officially launches with an ever-growing cast of iconic characters and even more gameplay options.
Warner Bros. is publishing MultiVersus, the free-to-play platform fighting game for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store). The game features full crossplay and cross-progression support.
Developed by Player First Games, with production support and live management from Warner Bros. Games San Diego, MultiVersus features an ever-growing roster of popular characters based on Warner Bros. Discovery franchises.
Starting today, Season 1 brings new playable fighters to the game with DC supervillain Joker, Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th horror film franchise and Banana Guard from Adventure Time, as well as Agent Smith from the Matrix film series, who joins the cast throughout the season.
MultiVersus launches with an all-new PvE mode called Rifts, with unexpected twists that take the game to a new level outside of competitive PvP battles. The game’s immersive combat continues to take place against the backdrop of various redesigned environments, including new maps inspired by the cartoons Dexter’s Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls.
“With the official launch of MultiVersus, we are offering players a free-to-play experience with a great, growing roster of iconic Warner Bros. Discovery characters,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Games. “Our goal is to make the game fun and accessible for both casual and competitive players, with ever-improving gameplay elements to enjoy alone or with friends.”
“It’s a dream project for our team and we’re so excited to officially launch MultiVersus,” said Tony Huynh, co-founder and game director of Player First Games. “With such a wide selection of beloved characters, we made sure to make each combatant feel special through their appearance and unique moves and combat mechanics. And with our PvE mode ‘Rifts’ now available in addition to PvP, we have the capabilities to play MultiVersus paired with our bespoke rollback netcode to support online gameplay, improving the experience for all players.”

MultiVersus can be played in a variety of ways and launches with a number of modes available online or locally. Rifts is a PvE experience with boss battles, mini-games and special rewards, making it a great choice for players looking to learn mechanics, test characters or improve their skills.
The mode can be played either solo or co-op online with a friend. MultiVersus also enables team-based 2v2 co-op, 1v1 matches, general competition for four players, co-op versus AI, custom online lobbies, the Lab (practice mode), tutorials, and support for local matches with up to four participants.
The dynamically changing “Dexter’s Laboratory” map and the “City of Townsville” map, which features the main villain of the “Powerpuff Girls”, Mojo Jojo, are complemented by the “Batcave” (DC), the “Treehouse” (Adventure Time), “Scooby’s Haunted House” (Scooby-Doo), the “Sky Arena” (Steven Universe) and other available locations for players.
In MultiVersus, each combatant is equipped with deep combat mechanics, coupled with enhanced graphics and lighting that put characters front and center and further immerse players in the action. The game also uses custom rollback netcode to support online play and matchmaking.
