It’s hard to believe that the story of Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to an end. It all started in 2012, when it was announced for the first time, and lasted between mysteries and delays until December 2020. Its launch was a disaster full of controversy and it took more than a year to introduce improvements. Although the multiplayer went down the drain, the Phantom Liberty expansion and update 2.0 were the redemption it deserved.
CD Projekt Red leaves many promises unfulfilled with Cyberpunk 2077. The company already announced the end of the game after Phantom Libertybut now it is a fact based on data: there are 0 units of developers working on V and Johnny Silverhand’s adventure, specifically since April 30, 2024.
The official @CDPROJEKTRED_IR account on Twitter shared a graph which shows how the developers are distributed between the different projects of the studio. On February 29 there were only 17 left in Cyberpunk 2077, but today there are none left. So, how are the rest distributed?
The Polaris project (The Witcher 4) has 407 of the 630 developers counted as of April 30, 2024. They are followed by Orion (Cyberpunk 2) with 56 developers, Sirius (spin-off of The Witcher) with 39 developers, Hadar (independent IP) with 20 developers and the remaining 109 are dedicated to various services (location, quality, information…) and other projects.
While most fans have welcomed the developers’ focus on The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, others have reacted negatively. Igor Sarzynski, narrative leader of Cyberpunk 2077 and creative director of the sequel, has went to Twitter to silence evil tongues: “Cyberpunk is not dead,” he says in a short, but decisive tweet.
