Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, Motorola, Vivo… many phone manufacturers already have their foldable phones. A foldable iPhone is therefore expected from Apple at some point, although the idea has also been considered that they would perhaps launch this technology with a foldable iPad and even a MacBook with a foldable screen. In fact, it’s the one that’s been heard the most lately.
Whether or not an Apple laptop with these features could be useful is something we’ll only be able to verify when it’s shown and we’ve been able to test it. However, we can already know some of the possibilities features of the first foldable MacBook thanks to leaks which attest that its development began a long time ago.
When will the first foldable MacBook be released?
If you know that Apple has been working on this project for at least two years now.. As a result, some concepts have emerged that illustrate what this could be, although everything may vary depending on progress and problems encountered.
Paying attention to the most recent leaks, we see that The idea is to launch it in 2026. At least that’s what Ming-Chi Kuo, a market analyst with sources in Apple’s supply chain, thinks, and who says mass production would begin in late 2025.
Concerning more precise dates, little is known. Whether production in late 2025 could imply a launch during the first quarter, nothing is clear yet. Especially when, as we said before, this doesn’t seem like a completely closed project yet.
Which range of MacBooks will be foldable?
The leaks revealed some details, but not as many as one might expect. Not at least to confirm whether it will be a MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air or even the rebirth of the MacBook line. Actually, could even be a new range with your own last name like MacBook Fold or something similar.
How many foldable MacBooks will there be?
Regarding the first batch, only one model is expected. We will see later that some leaks have pointed to different types of screen, although the truth is that being a new and very particular range, it seems strange to say the least to think that Apple will want to launch two different sizes.
Depending on its performance in the market, we might see more MacBooks in the future and in different sizes. Either way, with supply chain analytics in hand, by 2026 we would see a single release.
What will the MacBook’s foldable screen look like?
Still based on the most recent leaks, these suggest that we would have a 14 inch folding screen that would reach 18.8 inches once deployed. It would undoubtedly be one of the most important to date.
However, it is not specified what type of technology would be used. It is intuitive that they are flexible OLED panels as it happens on cell phones, but this is not confirmed at this time.
Likewise, it’s unclear if the keyboard would also be foldable or if some type of haptic keyboard would be added. This is something that concepts have been playing with for years, but it has yet to be confirmed with a reliable leak.
What processor will the foldable MacBook have?
Taking into account the leaks and the year in which it would be launched (we remember that in 2026), everything indicates that will have the M5 chip
This jump would go through increase neural motor nuclei and improve manufacturing technology. In fact, knowing that in 2025 iPhones could launch the first 2 nanometer chips, more precisely in the iPhone 17, it is normal that the same process is followed in this M5.
It is also to be determined If it will be the M5 or also its M5 Pro and M5 Max versions those who make their debut there. Again, this will depend on how much range you want the device to have.
How much will the foldable MacBook cost?
Given the limited information to date, deciphering the possible price is impossible at the moment. It won’t be cheap, something that can already be anticipated. Taking the current MacBook Pro as a reference starts at 2,029 dollars. Knowing that this new foldable MacBook will have new technology, It would not be strange to imagine prices starting from 2,500 dollars. Regardless, we emphasize that this is just a hypothesis.
