With this set possibly being the first in a new Lego Zelda line, Team NL sat down to think about what other Hyrulean landmarks and personalities could make epic Lego sets in the future…
Kokiri Forest & Lost Woods (Gavin Lane, Editor)
I’m still shocked that Nintendo didn’t push for some quirky new innovation with the Animal Crossing and Zelda sets, but I’m also overjoyed to see this after the example of the adult-oriented NES and Mario 64 ‘?’ Block.
I mind immediately jumps to Ocarina. The Temple of Time would be fine, but the OoT version isn’t that exciting — I’d rather see a Forest Temple diorama showing battle with Phantom Ganondorf or in Lost forest with a skull child on a stump with a bright brick providing a spotlight for Link’s solo Ocarina. Figure of Epon is simple, with a few Lon Lon Ranch fences to jump over, plus Malon, Talon and Ingo minifigs. How about Clock tower from Majora’s Mask with the ominous Moon looming overhead?
In fact, when I saw Link’s house included in the Deku set and heard Ollie bemoan the lack of a Mido minifigure, I thought of character-based expansion packs for the Kokiri Forest section, the same. These would be more affordable small sets with a Kokiri minifig and landscape detail. Little Mido guarding the arch that leads to the Deku tree, the girl sitting on the shop and saying ‘Hel-lo!’, the guy fighting in the stone ring, Saria waving a grass full of rupees or something.
There is no shortage of ideas for larger sets, but I would also like to see something smaller. I’m also dying to see what a Ganondorf minifig would look like.
Dragon Roost Island (Ollie Reynolds, staff writer)
I’d be curious to see how Wind Waker’s unique art style would translate to Lego, but when I started thinking about potential sets, I immediately settled on Dragon Roost Island. I’m not kidding that something like this would cost a hefty sum of money, but by God, it would so cool.
Just imagine it, a full Lego replica of the overworld of the island, complete with palm trees, bomb blossoms, a swirl of smoke atop a volcano, and of course, Great Valoo himself. Along with the minifigures, you could have Link, several members of the Rito tribe, the Chuchus, the Kargarocs, and even the wind god, Zephos. And of course, you need some kind of speaker to play the legendary Dragon Roost Island tune. Yes, this would probably cost at least £500…
But you know what, I’ll settle for the Lego version Wind Waker’s Gohm boss battle. That thing is so wicked.
Four Giants (Alana Hagues, Deputy Editor)
Yes, this is very ambitious, I know, but I want my ideas to be a little crazy. I also want the Temple of Time from OoT, but I’ll settle for the absolute madness that would be the Four Giants, trying to keep the Moon from collapsing.
The guardian deities of Termina are central figures in Majora’s Mask, and there are fewer iconic images from that game than the four of them stopping the moon from destroying the earth. This would be one of those builds that wouldn’t have too many tricks, honestly – but it would be complicated. Four buildable giants
Other things you can get with this are minifigures of Link, Skull Kid (although I hope we’ve all seen this awesome Skull Kid build from a few years ago), the lucky mask seller or the children of the moon.Perhaps, if the Moon is only a crescent, the flat side can be the location itself with a tree in the center.
Rito Village (Jim Norman, staff writer)
True, there is no Zelda location, item, or character that I do not I want to see one made of Legos. So, I tried to be realistic about this. Dawn’s domain? Too wet. Minish Village? Too small. Kara Kara bazaar? Too much sand (rough, rude and irritating). But The village of Rito is the set I can imagine.
Just imagine: a vertical structure with a lace-shaped focal rock in the center, a winding staircase with houses (shelters?) on the sides, and enough detail to fill three Hyrule Historias. Join the BOTW theme and give us a paraglider for the Link minifig. Oh God, it could be Cass figure! With a little harmonica!
More likely to take a stab at my bank balance, however, are a series of exhibition pieces like A selection of LEGO helmets, Infinity Gauntletor Star Wars dioramas. I shelves are already breaking under the pressure of the models I currently own, but I’m sure I could squeeze in detailed Master Sword, Hylian Shield or Ocarina. I’m an adult after all.
Anything else you’d rather have than all of the above? Maybe stained glass window sets? A recreation of Hyrule Castle’s secret garden? Does Jim’s suggestion of a tiny Kass with a tiny accordion trump everything else? Tell us below which ideas you like best.
