So far, Sony has used the Astro Bot games to showcase the features of new hardware. This situation could change with the latest offshoot, which was presented at State of Play.
If you own a PlayStation 5, chances are good that you’ve played Astro’s Playroom. The little jump-and-run game about the eponymous robot primarily introduces the features of the DualSense controller, but was also a damn good representative of the genre in its own right.

The news that Team Asobi will be releasing another game in the series, Astro Bot, is all the better. It is set to be released on September 6, 2024, of course exclusively on the PlayStation 5. But this time everything will be bigger and, according to the developers, of course better too.
In hard numbers, six galaxies await you, in which you will find over 80 levels. From chic forests to picturesque beaches to hot volcanoes, pretty much every standard is offered. But the studio also breaks up the genre standards a little with a giant hourglass or a singing tree.
The goal is relatively simple: you have to find your scattered crew and gather them together. However, we are not necessarily expecting a comprehensive story.
Astro himself has 15 new skills, and the DualSense is once again heavily involved. With the robot dog Barkster, for example, you can dash in the air and ram through enemies, metal and glass. The frog gloves, on the other hand, allow you to strike from great distances and the giant swim absorbs water, which you can use for area-wide attacks and puzzles. There are supposed to be over 70 enemy types and, of course, there are also creative bosses.
A first trialer shows you all these features and more. For example, there are some cameo appearances by other PlayStation characters hidden in the video.
