The Smart 2.0 entertainment package from MagentaTV contains the full program for fans of HD television. The latter is almost a must, especially on large TV sets. You no longer need a Telekom landline connection for app-based TV reception, but you still have to commit to the package for 24 months.
With MagentaTV Smart 2.0 you can receive over 150 HD channels either via the additionally available provider hardware MagentaTV One and MagentaTV Streaming Stick or now also on streaming platforms from Apple TV to Amazon Fire TV. It is also possible to use it via the PC browser or smartphone with the MagentaTV app.
However, you are dependent on hardware from Telekom if you want to receive the manageable number of UHD channels from MagentaTV. This is only possible with MagentaTV One or the MagentaTV Stick for a technology rental fee and is particularly interesting when MagentaTV shows a major football tournament such as the European Championship 2024 in UHD.
MagentaTV Smart:
Compared to the Basic tariff, which is tied to a connection, MagentaTV Smart stands out above all because of the premium access it includes to the RTL+ streaming service. The number of HD channels that can be received has also increased from around 100 to over 150 compared to Basic 2.0.
The included recording memory is significantly more generous at 100 hours compared to the 50 hours included in the Basic or Flex subscription. In addition, MagentaTV’s Smart tariff includes the same multi-screen options as the other packages with up to three parallel streams, but can be used on significantly more devices and also on mobile devices.

However, if you are interested in the program of the streaming service RTL+, which is included in the price, MagentaTV Smart is definitely cheaper than booking RTL+ Premium and MagentaTV Flex separately. If you want to watch the linear UHD channels from MagentaTV, you will have to expect additional costs, as this is only possible with the provider’s hardware.
Magenta TV Smart: Additional costs for UHD
Even without booking Telekom streaming partners such as Netflix, DAZN, Paramount+ or Disney+, additional costs can arise in addition to the monthly subscription fee. You can avoid a connection fee of 69.95 dollars if you book MagentaTV Smart 2.0 without a new Telekom connection. However, depending on the hardware you choose, you will eventually incur additional monthly costs.
So you have to pay extra if you want to have a Telekom device to receive your TV program: 5 dollars per month are charged for the MagentaTV One TV box, apart from promotions, while you have to shell out 3 dollars per month for the MagentaTV streaming stick.
There is a $6.95 shipping charge for each hardware, while you will receive a free return slip for the mandatory return of the hardware at the end of the contract. If you want to watch UHD channels such as those for the World Cup or Euro 2024, a MagentaTV device is absolutely necessary.
MagentaTV Smart: These devices are compatible
Even though MagentaTV 2.0 is much more flexible to receive than the old subscription model, a number of older Telekom receivers and TV boxes are no longer supported. According to Telekom, the Media Receiver MR 400, 401, 601 Sat, 200, 201 as well as the MagentaTV Box and MagentaTV Box Play are not compatible with MagentaTV Smart.
The MagentaTV One rental hardware and the MagentaTV Streaming Stick are not the only ways you can receive the content: Streaming players such as the Apple TV 4K/HD, Fire TV devices from Amazon and newer Chromecast models with Google TV also support the MagentaTV app, allowing you to receive HD channels and access MagentaTV+ and partner services.
You can also stream MagentaTV Smart via the PC browser and mobile devices with iOS and Android operating systems. You can download the MagentaTV app from Netzwelt.
