Did you sit through Sony State of Play and still want more? Still hoping for Bloodborne 2 or a Bloodborne remake? Well, forget about those dreams – you don’t need them! Because Nightmare Kart (formerly Bloodborne Kart) is out now.
Currently available for free on Itch.io (and on Steam once it’s approved), the PSX Gothic kart racing game offers a legitimate race through a somewhat familiar Gothic setting and a cast of vaguely recognizable characters. Those who wish to support the developer can donate directly to them, while the rest of the world can get it for free.
Nightmare Kart was originally scheduled to launch a while ago, but the development team received a DMCA notice from Sony Interactive Entertainment. This led to them spending a month removing all Bloodborne content from the game and replacing it with original gothic content that has the same feel as the beloved From Software games, but without any of the pesky IP.
In a November 2023 interview with iGamesNews, lead developer Lilith explained the journey the game had taken in the lead up to its imminent release – what started as a trending meme on Twitter and turned into a full-blown development project. The game had to be halted in 2023 due to legal disputes, but all this work has finally come to a head.
