Miyazaki’s latest film has barely been released and we can already learn more about the next Ghibli film. A change from the previous one.
Thanks to revelations from his son Goro Miyazaki during a special event, Studio Ghibli fans recently got a rare glimpse of famed director Hayao Miyazaki’s potential next film. For fans of Japanese animation and the poetry in his father’s films, it’s truly reassuring – regardless of the genre it transcends in cinema.
Talk about the next Ghibli
Goro Miyazaki attended a preview of the second part of the special exhibition “The Boy and the Heron” at the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo. At the event, he revealed that his father began making panoramic boxes during the seven-year production of “The Boy and the Heron.” Originally, these designs were based on his previous films. Goro told t he media in attendance: ” I told him to make boxes for future projects. Just doing things from the past is boring. Now he makes some for future projects
Goro had just come from the Cannes Film Festival, where he accepted the Palme d’Or on behalf of Studio Ghibli, the first time the award was given to a group rather than an individual. This award rounded out the numerous accolades the studio received for its latest film, The Boy and the Heron. During the festival, viewers were able to see a thank you clip from Toshio Suzuki and Hayao Miyazaki, in which the latter expressed his opinion that the golden age of anime was over.
Speculation about Miyazaki’s next project has also overshadowed hopes for a sequel to Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Although that project has long been discussed and renowned directors such as Takashi Yamazaki and Hideaki Anno have expressed interest, Goro hinted that his father’s next film could be something entirely different.
