Peaky Blinders Don’t worry, fans, just because Cillian Murphy won an Oscar for Oppenheimer doesn’t mean he’s forgotten about the gang-crime series.

In fact, Netflix just announced yesterday that Murphy will be returning to his role as Tommy Shelby from the hit historical drama series in a new film. No plot details have been revealed about the film, given how early it may be, but Murphy will also be a producer on the film, in addition to starring in it. “It looks like Tommy Shelby and I haven’t done with each other yet… I’m so excited to be working with Steven Knight and Tom Harper again on the film version of Peaky Blinders,” Murphy said in a statement. “This is for the fans.”

Tom Harper, who directed some of the show’s first season in 2013, will direct the project, with series creator Steven Knight writing the script. “When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we had no idea what the series would become, but we knew the magic of the cast and the writing would be mind-blowing,” Harper said of the news (via Variety). “Peaky Blinders has always been about family — so I’m really excited to reunite with Steve and Cillian to bring the series to audiences around the world on Netflix.”

Knight also said he was “really excited that this movie is coming out” and that it will be “an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders shop. No holds barred. Peaky Blinders all the way.”

Other cast members besides Murphy have yet to be confirmed, but the film is expected to start shooting later this year in association with BBC Films. Murphy will be busy next, as he will reprise his role as Jim in 28 Years Later following his Oscar win, and he will also star in and produce an adaptation of A River of Blood.
