It’s going to be a hot summer… for video games! Host Geoff Keighley’s annual showcase of the world’s upcoming games, Summer Game Fest, kicked off Friday with a two-hour extravaganza packed with game trailers, announcements, and surprise reveals.
In addition to new looks at Capcom’s Monster Hunter WorldAtlus’ Metaphor: ReFantazioand Funcom’s Dune: The AwakeningSpectators were treated to many new games and first glimpses of gameplay. Here are all the big announcements at Summer Game Fest 2024.
Lego Horizon Adventure
Aloy’s adventures through a post-post-apocalyptic wasteland just got a lot…cuter? And sillier! Lego Horizon Adventure is an isometric, Lego-based take on Guerrilla Games’ open-world adventure series, coming later this year to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC.
Harry Potter Quidditch Champions
The multiplayer Quidditch game set in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is coming this summer. Our first look at Harry Potter: Quidditch Champion also has a release date: The game will be released on September 3rd for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. It will be available from day one via PlayStation Plus.
Cuff bust
The developer behind the horror train game Chu-Chu, Charles revealed Cuff busta cute, chaotic prison escape game where you play as jailiens and try to break out of prison. Coming in 2025.
Sid Meier’s Civilization 7
The next entry in the Civilization series is finally official. Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 will bring back the great historical 4X turn-based strategy game series and ruin your sleep patterns when it releases on PC and consoles in 2025.
Street Fighter 6 Year 2 characters bring Capcom vs. SNK
The Street Fighter 6 The roster will be expanded, with M. Bison (this summer), Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury (fall) and Mai Shiranui (winter 2025) and Street Fighter 3‘s Elena (Spring 2025), Capcom presented it at the Summer Game Fest.
Dragon Ball: Spark! Zero
The Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi series returns with Dragon Ball: Spark! Zero this fall. The high-profile fighting game will be released on October 11 for PS5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X.
Fatal Fury: City of Wolves
A new trailer for SNK’s Fatal Fury: City of Wolves confirms an early 2025 release window for PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X and shows the new fighters B. Jenet and Vox Reaper in action.
Monster Hunter World
Capcom has already shown a lot of Monster Hunter Worldthe next game in the open-world action-adventure hunting series. At the Summer Game Fest, Monster Hunter fans learned even more thanks to an appearance by series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and a new trailer. Tsujimoto promised another look at Monster Hunter World later this summer at Gamescom Opening Night Live.
Metaphor: ReFantazio
Persona fans, pay attention. Atlus and Studio Zero revealed more about Metaphor: ReFantaziotheir new turn-based fantasy strategy game with a new trailer and a release date: October 11th on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X.
Six titles from Blumhouse Games
Blumhouse, the film production company that turns indie-budget horror films into (mostly) blockbuster hits, is entering the gaming industry. At Summer Game Fest, the new Blumhouse Games division unveiled its first projects: Crisol Theater of Idols by Vermila Studios, Serious seasons by Perfect Garbage, Sleep awake by Eyes Out, Fear the limelight by Cozy Game Pals, The simulation by PlayMeStudio and Project C by Sam Barlow and Brandon Cronenberg.
Alan Wake 2: Night Springs
More Alan Wake is coming. Remedy’s first expansion for Alan-Wake 2 presents “mysterious, terrifying and bizarre what-if scenarios,” says Sam Lake, with clear Twilight Zone – The Hidden World
Phantom Blade 0
New trailer from S-Game for the character action game Phantom Blade 0 saw more An axe-like than ever before at the Summer Game Fest.
Slotted head
The new horror game from the former developers of Silent Hill and Siren may not be what you expected, but Slotted head features some fascinating design choices, such as the ability to create machine guns, swords, spears, and claws from human blood to fight against horribly mutated humans. Slotted head also has a release date: November 8th.
Dune: The Awakening
Funcom’s survival MMO Dune continues to look great and in a new trailer with a lot of story we get an insight into the setup for Dune: The Awakening: a universe without Paul Atreides.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Review
Summer Game Fest saw the unveiling of a new Power Rangers game from Digital Eclipse, the developer increasingly known for its carefully researched and lavishly presented archival collections of retro games. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Review takes classic moments from the show and packages them in a retro gameplay style with a time travel twist.
Stone pile
The creators behind Open it And oasis revealed their next project, an intense looking and stylish mountain climbing game called Stone pile.
Hiking stop
Annapurna Interactive and Ivy Road — the game developed by Davey Wreden, the creator of The Stanley ParableKarla Zimonja, co-creator of Went home And Tacomaand Daniel “C418” Rosenfeld, the composer behind the music of Minecraft – revealed Hiking stopwhich they describe as a “narrative-centered, cozy game about change and tea.” As fallen warrior Alta, “you manage a tea shop in a magical forest and take care of the customers who come by,” which is something she doesn’t really want to do. Sounds like there’s another layer to it… Hiking stop is coming to PlayStation 5 and PC.
Sonic X Shadow Generations
Sega’s remaster of Sound generationsnow with additional Shadow the Hedgehog, released on October 25th.
Valorant is coming to PS5 and Xbox
Riot Games’ tactical team shooter makes the leap from PC to console. AppreciationThe PS5 and Xbox Series X versions will launch later this year, with a limited beta test starting on June 14.
Hyper-Lightbreaker
Heart Machine gave Hyperlight Drifter Fans a long and tantalizing look at the 3D sequel, Hyper-Lightbreakerand brought good news: The new game will be released in Early Access on Steam this summer.
Delta Force: Hawk Ops
Delta Force: Hawk Ops is the latest installment in the classic Delta Force shooter series and includes multiplayer PvP, an extraction mode and a complete remake of the original Delta Force: Black Hawk Down Video game based on the film by Ridley Scott.
Neva
Summer Game Fest gave us an insight into Nevathe “emotionally charged action adventure” from the developer of Gray. According to the game’s official description, “Neva tells the story of Alba, a young woman who finds herself bound to a curious wolf cub after a traumatic encounter with dark forces. Together they embark on a perilous journey through a once beautiful world that is slowly crumbling around them.”
Black Myth: Wukong
Action game Black Myth: Wukong is a great looking game, but the latest trailer is completely computer generated. The PC game is coming out on August 20th.
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess
Capcom’s fantasy strategy action game Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess has a surprising (surprisingly soon) release date: July 19th.
