State of Decay 3 is finally back after a four-year hiatus, and it looks awesome

Awesome, Decay, finally, fouryear, hiatus, State

After first being revealed four years ago, State of Decay 3 finally got a new trailer during today’s Xbox Games Showcase.

It’s been a while since we last saw State of Decay 3, as the 2020 trailer was the only thing shown, and that was just a CG trailer. But now, developer Undead Labs has finally given a full look at the upcoming third sequel and even showed off some gameplay. You can watch the trailer below, which shows off a small part of the world through a nice cinematic.

The trailer doesn’t confirm a release date for State of Decay 3, but it does offer a 2025 release window, so you’ll be able to team up with your friends and take down hordes of zombies soon.

This isn’t a surprise discovery, though, as Gematsu found that Undead Labs itself has linked to a press kit confirming that the trailer will be dropping today. Oops!

Matt Booty, head of Microsoft Studios, confirmed State of Decay 3’s development back in 2018, when it was revealed that Microsoft had acquired Undead Labs, among a number of other studios. Oddly enough, that was right after State of Decay 2 was released, so Booty had clearly been keeping an eye on the game for quite some time. State of Decay 2 was released to mixed reviews, with some critics liking the risk of permadeath, while others were frustrated by the sheer number of bugs in the game.
