During today’s Ubisoft Summer Game Fest showcase, the publisher took a moment to acknowledge that its long-in-development and oft-delayed Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time The remake is still being made. But if you were hoping to play it soon… bad news. It won’t be released until sometime in 2026.
Here’s the super-short teaser that debuted during the UbiForward 2024 event. It basically reveals nothing except a date in 2026:
The original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was released in 2003 and was a huge success, leading to a complete trilogy with sequels. In September 2020Ubisoft announced its plans to remake the popular third-person action platformer, with the game scheduled to be released in 2021. December 2020 the game was postponed. Then it was postponed indefinitely to February 2021. Then in May 2022 Ubisoft announced that Ubisoft Montreal
Now we are in 2024 and Ubisoft has a new, very short teaser confirming that the game is still in development. During the event, Ubisoft confirmed that time-bending powers and action would be a central part of this upcoming project. The teaser looks good and seems to have a similar vibe to Sands of time.
At this point, however, players will have to wait until 2026 to see if the nearly decade-long development cycle ends with a game worth that long wait. It’s another game that’s struggling to get out the door, something that Ubisoft has had problems with in recent years. We will see.
