Konami’s remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater According to comments from producer Noriaki Okamura, this sounds like it’s the start of a series of new projects in the franchise, developed by a “new team.”
In a new video released on Monday for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eaterthe name of Konami’s upcoming MGS3 Okamura tells longtime Snake voice actor David Hayter that his team, which includes “a lot of people who were involved in the original games,” has been “entrusted with the future of Metal Gear.”
“We want players to be able to judge for themselves whether this new team is up to the task of keeping Metal Gear going,” said Okamura, referring to the team’s work on Metal Gear Solid Delta and the recently published Metal Gear Solid: The Complete Series compilation.
In his conversation with Hayter, Okamura was opaque about the departure of former Metal Gear creators like Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa. While he doesn’t explicitly name them, he says, “Everyone who is no longer working on Metal Gear is now going their own way, and that will continue for these titles.” That’s a pretty clear indication that Konami plans to (re)make more Metal Gear without the involvement of the original creator.
Okamura previously worked with Kojima and his team on games such as Metal Gear Solid: Portable Operations And Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes. He was also a producer of the poorly received 2018 game Metal Gear Survivalthe only original Metal Gear project released after Hideo Kojima left Konami.
The Metal Gear Solid 3 The remake could mark a fresh start for the franchise at Konami after Kojima. The 2024 game was chosen for a lavish remake in Unreal Engine 5 because of its place in the overall Metal Gear timeline. Konami told IGN last year; Snake Eater is an origin story for Naked Snake/Big Boss and is the chronologically first game in the series. In other words, it’s a good starting point to attract new fans who may not be as familiar with the epic sequels to the MGS series.
If Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a success and Konami continues to make new games, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Operations And Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker would be next chronologically. These two early follow-up works from the Cold War era Snake Eater also stars Big Boss – not Solid Snake – and could build on the foundation of Metal Gear Solid Deltawith characters and assets from Metal Gear Solid Delta.
When future Metal Gear remakes will appear is still unknown, as is the release date Metal Gear Solid DeltaThe remake was originally planned for 2024, but Konami hasn’t said anything about it in the past week. delta will be released this year, although pre-orders are possible. A 2025 release is becoming increasingly likely.
For now, Metal Gear fans will have to pass the time by learning about new gameplay details that will be revealed on Sunday in a new trailer for Metal Gear Solid Delta at the Xbox Games Showcase.
