We are excited to finally announce the next game in the Life is Strange series. Life is strange: double exposure!
It’s been extremely rewarding to work on and we can’t wait for you to delve deeper into the supernatural crime thriller we’ve been working on for over four years. And longtime fans will be thrilled to know that our original star Max Caulfield is back.
When Max was 18 years old and studying photography, she developed the ability to turn back time and fell into the dark side of Blackwell Academy, a high school in the small town of Arcadia Bay..
In Life is strange: double exposureWe continue the story several years later and find Max trying to build a new life for herself as an artist-in-residence at the prestigious Caledon University. Max spent years traveling and photographing abandoned places. She kept everyone at a distance because the decisions of her past still weigh heavily on her.
Caledon is the first place in years where Max feels the pull of a community. She has begun to reach out to others again, to make friends and socialize… and then all of that is ripped away from her in a single night when she finds her new friend, the poet Safi Llewellyn-Fayyad, dead in the snow.
Murdered.
Max’s shock soon turns to confusion – Safi’s death seems impossible, not only because it was so sudden, but also because there are no clues or suspects; not to mention the fact that Max saw her alive just seconds earlier.
As the days pass, her shock turns to determination to find out the truth. Then she begins to hear Safi’s voice. Max reaches out his hand, tensing every supernatural tendon. tears a hole in reality and switches to a parallel timeline. Here Safi is still alive. And still in danger! Max is the only one who can possibly save her friend.
She also d iscovers that her long-dormant power has changed. She can now move between two parallel timelines that move forward in sync. In one timeline, Safi is dead and her friends and the campus are in mourning. In the other, Safi is very much alive and Max is the only one who knows that a deadly threat is stalking the college.
For the first time, players must solve and prevent the same murder, uncovering every secret Caledon holds. As you may have noticed, the friendship between Max and Safi is at the core of this new crime thriller. Let’s touch on a few key shots from the trailer to dig a little deeper…
Max is back! For the first time in nearly a decade, players take control of Max Caulfield – either again or for the first time ever. Even if you’re new to Life is Strange, this story will tell you everything you need to understand Max’s past and her emotional journey.
One of the things that was most important to us when writing this story was that Safi was not just a plot device or a body. The fact that she is very much alive in either timeline means that she remains a living presence throughout the game. Finding out what drives her is Only
Since Safi is still alive in one timeline, Max also has access to something NO other detective is able to answer all of the murder victim’s nagging questions!
Max is also the only person who can switch between the two timelines. Max can switch between different switch points in the world – soft places in reality where the wall between the timelines is thin. As she explores both timelines, the mysteries grow – but only Max has the ability to find out the truth.
Max and Safi will need all your help if Life is strange: double exposure will be released on October 29th this year – and those who pre-order the Ultimate Edition will be able to play both Chapters 1 and 2 starting October 15th!
