Xiaomi will go from being a simple mobile manufacturer, to possibly obtaining the record for the most legendary circuit in motorsport, after only a few months on the market. This is the objective that the Chinese brand has set for itself with a new “hardcore” version of the Xiaomi SU7 already in testing.
When the Xiaomi SU7 was presented, it did so by pointing directly to the two major references in the electric car sector: Tesla and Porsche. Depending on the version, the SU7 compares very favorably to the best models from these brands, both in terms of autonomy and pure performance. In the latter sense, Xiaomi said that the SU7 Max is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.78 seconds, beating the Porsche Taycan Turbo.
However, every car enthusiast knows that numbers on paper are one thing and how the car behaves in real-world situations is another. Therefore, Xiaomi’s next step will be demonstrate the potential of the SU7 in a timed test
As revealed CarscoopsXiaomi has already carried out tests in Germany of a ‘hardcore’ version of the Xiaomi SU7, with several mechanical and aerodynamic modifications to achieve the best possible lap time. It is not known if this version will be launched on the market, like the Tesla Model S Plaid, or if it is a special unit that will remain at Xiaomi headquarters; Either way, it’s a demonstration of what’s possible with the SU7 as a base.
Leaked photographs reveal some of the changes made; the most remarkable is a fixed spoiler at the rear to generate aerodynamic support at high speed. The Xiaomi SU7 can mount an intelligent spoiler, which automatically rises when the speeds that require it are reached; but in competition, a fixed wing which always ensures the same aerodynamic load is preferable. Likewise, to avoid an aerodynamic imbalance, the front now has a “spoiler” under the front bumper. The car appears lower thanks to a new suspension.

The other change is not visible, but it is noticeable: power would have been increased to 1,000 horsepower, compared to the combined 663 horsepower of the two electric motors in the Max version of the SU7. Obviously, such power will affect the range, but this should not pose a problem for these tests, because the car should “only” cover a little more than 20 kilometers.
Specifically, we are talking about the Nordschleife, the original Nürburgring course, opened almost 97 years ago and in which motorsport legends like Jackie Stewart, Stefan Bellof or Niki Lauda, who had a famous accident, competed. Perhaps this is the last of the “old circuits”

The Nordschleife is also very useful for automobile brands. With 154 turns, very long straights and different types of surfaces, it’s an ideal test circuit test the performance of new sports models; and there is some “unofficial” competition between brands to reduce the operating time of different types of cars and vehicles.
Xiaomi has joined this competition. Although the company has not officially announced it, it is very likely that the goal of this visit to the Nürburgring is to break the record for sedan-type electric cars, which it currently holds. the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with a time of 7:07.55. Only one supercar, the Rimac Nevera, managed to record a lower time in the electric car sector.
The Xiaomi project should be revealed in the coming months, especially if it achieves its goal of breaking the record, and that will be when it will be known if the “Xiaomi SU7 Hardcore” will hit the market.
