Deck Nine Games & Square Enix held a livestream today for the latest game in the Life is Strange series, ending it with an 18-minute gameplay sequence that has now been uploaded to the series’ YouTube channel. It shows Max Caulfield, the protagonist of the first game, returning with her friend Safi – who has become the victim of a killer on the loose. Using her powers to rewind time again, Max jumps between two timelines to solve the mystery and save her friend.

Double Exposure will continue Max’s time in Arcadia Bay by making both endings of the original game canon. According to information released during the stream, players will be able to choose which ending they want to run with, which is a careful way to keep the choices from the first game relevant while giving this sequel more room to spread its wings. In some ways, it’s reminiscent of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, whose final season allows players to “replay” their choices from previous seasons and decide which version of Clementine they’d like to play. Depending on your choice of ending, Max’s journey here could take completely different paths, though not much has been confirmed on that front.

The game will reveal its true colors on October 29, but the release date for the Switch version has not yet been revealed. Current listings on Square Enix’s webstore and Amazon only offer the standard edition for Switch, along with a December 31st placeholder date. Namely, the Ultimate Edition, which comes with a two-week early access period for the game, is not yet available for Switch users. But with time, the culprit behind this murder mystery will be clarified and the fans’ questions will be answered.
