Last Sunday, June 9, we experienced a superb Xbox Game Showcase. Nearly two hours of event where Xbox brought out practically all its artillery with new looks at the games that will arrive both this year, like Avowed or Indiana Jone and the Great Circle, or the one to come, like Fable or South of Midnight. In addition, we had the opportunity to discover for the first time games of the caliber of Doom: The Dark Age and a real surprise: Gears of War: E-Day.
With all this, and everything we haven’t mentioned like Perfect Dark, Xbox hasn’t shown all the games it currently has in development spread across all its studios. And we’re not just talking about announcements or reveals, but about those titles that we already know and some of which are even arriving this year.
Missing and Missing in Action: Everything Xbox Didn’t Show at the Xbox Game Showcase
But that doesn’t mean they were guaranteed a spot in the Xbox Game Showcase. The best example is Towerbone, the fantasy cooperative action game with a 2024 release date. A title that has already been appreciated in several closed betas and that wanted to be one of the protagonists of the event due to its imminent release date. However, there was no trace of him, although Stoic herself assured that we will have news about the game soon. Maybe at Gamescome? Regardless, a possible delay is not at all unreasonable, especially given how busy the end of the year is for Xbox.

Another major absentee for another year was Still wild. While Rare continues to reap success and praise with Sea of Thieves, released in 2018 and whose new content we saw at the show, Its new IP is still missing. Originally announced in 2019, in those five years we’ve had virtually no news about a project that sparks both interest and strangeness. We still don’t know anything about him and, it seems, that will continue to be the case for some time. Will we be able to see it?

On the other hand, although predictable, he did not go on stage either Contraband, the new IP exclusively for Xbox from Avalanche. The game was shown a few years ago with a CGI teaser that simply announced the project to us and we never heard about it again. Several rumors suggest its launch in 2025, but we have still not seen anything on this subject nor known any official details on this new project.

Finally, one of the major absentees was Mechanical revolution. The new IP of inXile It was the closing of the Xbox Game Showcase 2023 and left many people speechless who were hoping to learn more in this year’s edition. But the reality is that this time we haven’t had a new update. Announced at the same time as South of Midnight, it seems that inXile’s new steampunk and time travel theme will have to wait a little longer. Will it arrive in 2025 or will it be one of the protagonists of 2026?

Logically, Xbox could not show all the games in development in its studios in a single Xbox Game Showcase. There are absences that we can understand, like Everwild or Contraband, but others that are more difficult for us to see. Either because of its (theoretical) tight launch, as is the case with Towerborne, or because it was one of the big performers at last year’s Showcase, like Clockwork Revolution. A game that was supposed to arrive in 2025 with Fable and South of Midnight, but which, for now, remains a mystery. Will we see them at Gamescom (if there’s a conference) or will we have to wait until next year’s Xbox Game Showcase?
