The first trailer for Sweetheart Chainsaw has been released, along with a release date.
First announced in 2022, Saw Remake was initially slated for a 2023 release, but was later pushed back to 2024. Now, developer Dragami Games has released the first trailer for the remake of the classic game, which is described as “the definitive version of the game, with the story remaining the same and a focus on quality of life improvements and additional gameplay content.” One of the new additions is the ability to switch between two modes – Original Mode, “based on the original version” or RePop Mode, “with less violence and using pop art damage effects.” The trailer notes that the graphics in the game are using RePop mode, and unsurprisingly, it really fits the tone of the game.
In addition to showing off the game in action, Dragami also confirmed that the game will be released digitally via Steam on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on September 25. Dragami also outlined some new features and quality of life improvements in a separate post, such as faster loading times, a new Chained Hits Hunting system that increases speed after consecutive hits, and the addition of auto-lock and auto-fire modes to the Chainsaw Blaster. In addition to this, there are new chainsaws, 30 costumes, and a limited-time attack mode.

For those new to Saw, this is a bit of an odd story. No More Heroes creator Suda51 directed the game, but it was James Gunn who wrote it – you know him best as the head of DC Studios and the director of Guardians of the Galaxy, but in the past he’s known for the Slither movie and the two live-action Scooby-Doo movies. Neither of them are involved with this remake, but they’ve probably been busy lately, especially Gunn. The original game received mostly middling reviews at the time, but we’ll have to see how it does a decade or more later.
