In the IT sector, we have a wide variety of specialized solutions to satisfy different types of needs. AAEON, a company specializing in modular computers, has just announced the systems NanoCOM-RAPwho are new COM Express Modules which are based on Intel Core processors 13th generation designed for industrial applications, robotics and edge computing.
COM Express configurations are a type of small form factor, modular computer-on-module (COM) for specific applications. This system has become standardized and gained great popularity for industrial applications.
They differ from SBCs (single board computers like the Raspberry Pi) in that they connect to so-called carrier boards. These add additional elements, such as I/O connectivity and other elements for specific tasks. The carriers are fully customizable, allowing them to be adapted to the needs of each customer.
COM Express based on 13th generation Intel Core processors
The new NanoCOM-RAP model has different high-power and highly efficient Intel processors. We have an Intel U300E chip as the simplest model and a Core i7-1365UE as the most powerful solution. They therefore offer us up to 10 cores and high Boost frequencies to obtain the best performance.
It incorporates Intel UHD graphics, which is a more than sufficient solution to display the image. It has dual-screen outputs via DDI and eDP outputs with resolutions up to 3840 x 2160 pixels at a 60Hz refresh rate.
They have been developed with the aim of offering customers a compact, flexible and highly scalable solution. These new systems use up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 memory for the best possible performance. Additionally, these new systems feature dual SATA drives and up to four 128GB PCIe M.2 slots are supported as an option.
It integrates a LAN port thanks to an Intel Ethernet I226-IT 2.5 GbE controller. It offers enormous connectivity, supporting up to eight USB 2.0 ports and two USB 3.2 Gen 2. Additionally, it offers a lot of flexibility, allowing the integration of peripherals such as cameras and/or sensors.
NanoCOM-RAP has great serial communication capability, including:
- Two 2-wire UARTs
- An 8-bit GPI
- SMBus
- I2C
This new COM Express system has been developed for industrial, robotics and advanced computing applications. Additionally, according to AAEON, it is particularly interesting for vision with AI. The most interesting thing is the great flexibility it offers, adapting to a large number of different environments, being able to develop personalized solutions for each case.
It has a power input range that oscillates between 9 volts and 15 volts, incorporates TPM 2.0 and a very lightweight design of approximately 68 grams. The module has dimensions of 84 mm x 55 mm. This module becomes a compact and powerful solution, particularly interesting for implementation in restricted spaces.
Let’s assume that the new NanoCOM-RAP system is designed for use with Windows 10 or Ubuntu 22.04.2, or later. Concerning availability, AAEON has not given any information, nor its possible price. It is also not a system that will be marketed to the general public, since it focuses on a professional sector that requires specific solutions.
