Despite the current success of the game series, Bethesda is not planning a remake of Fallout 1 and 2.
The Fallout Prime Video series not only made the franchise more popular, but current games like Fallout 76 and Fallout 4 are benefiting from the success as new and old players find their way into the wasteland.
There are two games in the series, Fallout 1 and 2, but they are still turn-based and played from an isometric perspective. Fallout 3 was the first game to make the transition to a 3D role-playing game.
The continued success would make some developers think about a remake. In an interview, MrMattyPlays asked Todd Howard, Executive Producer of the Fallout series, whether new editions could now be expected.
But we probably won’t see that happen. As Howard explained, Bethesda would rather ensure that these games remain playable in their original version on modern hardware.
Howard explained: “I find the question very interesting and agree with a lot of what you said, but the main priority for us is to make sure they are available.”
“On PC, of course, we need to make sure that people can pick them up and play them, and that they run well.”
“What goes beyond that, we’ve talked about that, but our priorities in terms of ‘Hey, let’s work on development and get certain things working’ weren’t in those areas. So our priority is ‘Hey, can people load it up and play it?'”
“I do think we want it to load and run well,” he said. “I think part of the charm of the games from that era and the original Fallout comes a little bit from that age.”
“So I would never want to put a label on any of it saying ‘well, we changed the way it works to be more modern’. As long as you can download it, as long as it loads and runs, I want people to experience it as it was.”
